Management Development

“No system, process, or self-directed team-irrespective of how modern, fashionable, or flawless it may be – can ever take the place of a great manager.”  -  Follow this Path, Curt Coffman

So what makes a great manager?

They do not have much in common- that are all different sexes, races and ages. They have widely differing styles and focus on different goals. The research in First, Break All the Rules shows  they do have the following things in common:

  • They break all the rules of conventional wisdom.
  • They do not believe a person can do anything he sets his mind to.
  • They do not try and help a person overcome his weaknesses.
  • They consistently disregard the golden rule.
  • They even play favorites.

Great managers are revolutionary, but they have no "standardized style”. The Gallup organization undertook a mammoth research project that first concentrated on employees, asking “What do the

most talented employees need from their workplace?”

Research shows that “the talented employee may join a company because of its charismatic leaders, its generous benefits and its world class training program, but how long that employee stays and how productive he is while he is there is determined by his relationship with his immediate supervisor.”
